Project Overview
This past reporting period, the Asian Business Institute and Resource Center (ABIRC) implemented its Southeast Asian (SEA) Beginning Farmer Program of Fresno. The goal of this program is to create a pilot study that will recruit a cohort of ten limited resource and socially disadvantaged SEA beginning farmers, with zero to three years of farming experience (i.e., category give), to (a) farm on 20 acres of land and (b) engage in a series of business development and farming workshops. Since the writing of the original summary, the ABIRC has been able to recruit a cohort of five limited resource and socially disadvantaged farmers, all of whom were able to engage in three business workshops on financial literacy, recordkeeping, and business plan writing. Pre-surveys and post-surveys, which were distributed at the workshops, showed that the five farmers increased their knowledge of financial literacy, recordkeeping, and business plan writing.
